I wanted to photograph my mother, the person I had least photographed. I wanted to document her daily life, her relationships with people, family, friends and myself. But my mother would not agree to pose and refused even the quickest snapshot. I had no other choice but to look at photographs of her taken by other people; her parents, my father, family friends.
I tried to link what I inherited from her to what she inherited from her own mother. The way her mother sees her to the way her daughters, my sisters and I, see her. I compared the relationship between her parents to her relationship with my father.
In the end, I believe this project is not as much about my mother as I thought it would be when I started it.
It is about us.
